      Van Den Berg, Ella M. (Ella DeValk) "Grandma Candy" Ella Van Den Berg passed peacefully Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. She was born March 16, 1906, in De Pere, daughter of the late Henry and Antoinette (Wagonmaker) De Valk. On June 14, 1932, Ella married Melvin R. Van Den Berg. He preceded her in death in 1972. Ella was a homemaker and spent many a day gardening, canning, cooking, baking and sewing for her family and loved ones. Survivors include three children: Melvin (Lou) Van Den Berg of De Pere; Robert (Bonnie) Van Den Berg of Zimmerman, Minnesota, and Patricia Schuh-Helf (David Helf) of Brillion; a brother, Egbert De Valk and three sisters: Florence Conard, Lillian Buszkiewicz and Margaret Ryan. Ella is further survived by 18 grandchildren: Nanette, Nadine, Noreen, Nada, Joe, Chad, Todd, Toby (Mel and Lou's); Dawn, Wendy, Karen, Jody, Michael, Rob, Steve, Dennis (Bob and Bonnie's) and Stacy, Kevin and Mandy (Pat Schuh-Helf and (Mike Schuh; deceased) 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in 1972, an infant daughter in 1940, four grandchildren: Dick, Dan, Nadine and an infant girl; three brothers: Antone, David, and John De Valk, and a sister, Marie Bender. The funeral liturgy for Ella will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Oneida. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the services.

      The family wises to thank Ella's caregivers at Good Shepherd Nursing Home for their wonderful care and kindness over the many years she resided there. Also a special thanks to Heartland Hospice for their understanding and support.
