  • Notes
    • Henry De Valk married Antoinette Marie Wagonmaker in Holland in the year 1899. They emigrated from Holland to America for their honeymoon.
Prior to Henry's leaving Holland, a friend of his had told him about a job in DePere, Wisconsin, at the Reliance Boiler Works. He had heard great things about America and decided he would take his wife and start a new life in America. Reliance Boiler Works in DePere (the building still stands, one block from the fairgrounds) manufactured boilers for many new industries. Henry first worked in the plant making the boilers and then spent much time traveling to different towns to help build the boiler stacks.
Henry's heart was in farming. He, as many who immigrated to Wisconsin, heard of the rich soils of Wisconsin. He and Antoinette rented a farm six miles west of De Pere where they remained for fifteen years and raised 9 children. They grew their own vegetables, and raised their own beef, chickens for eggs and even make their own soap. For a brief time following their fifteen years of farming, Henry took a job with Nicolet Paper Company in Green Bay. It didn't take long for him to miss farming. Henry then rented another farm in the Town of Oneida, Outagamie County. He resided on the Town of Oneida until he was 88 years old.
Henry died at the age of 89 following a brief 1 ½ year stay at the Grancare Nursing Home in Green Bay.
