Little Chute
Age 82, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday after a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1898 in the Town of Vanden Broek. He had lived in the Little Chute area all of his life. Mr. Van Handel had been engaged in farming and had founded and managed the Kaukauna Cooperative Dairy in 1932, until it merged with the Consolidated Badger Cooperative, Appleton. He had served as chairman for the Town of Vanden Broek and was a past president of the Little Chute Golden Agers and secretary-treasurer of the Little Chute Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ervin (Alice) Van Asten, Appleton; a son, Donald, Appleton; two brothers: George, Forest Grove, Oregon; and Barney, Darboy; three sisters: Mrs. Mary Van Groll, Darboy; Mrs. Norbert (Genevieve) Feldkamp, Kaukauna; and Mrs. Nick (Esther) Hietpas, Little Chute; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kate, June 1977; a son, Jerome, 1955, a brother, Norbert; and a sister, Ann. A concelebrated mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen and the Rev. Donald Zuleger officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. Saturday hour of the service. There will be a Golden Agers' Rosary at 6:30 and a parish prayer service at 8, both Friday evening. A memorial fund has been established.
