  • Notes
    • Mary Louise Schampers, 95, Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital. Mary Louise was born August 25, 1917, in Green Bay, the youngest child of Adolph and Philomene (Le Coque) Garot. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, baptized at St. John's, graduated from St. John's Grade School in 1931, and St. Joseph Academy in 1935.

On February 24, 1944, she married Marvin Schampers at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Green Bay. While in high school, Mary worked at Woolworth's Dime Store and during the 1940's she worked as the head of the stationary department. at H.C. Prange. After the death of her husband, Marvin, on April 30, 1971, she worked for Dr. Glen Denys. She then worked in the Radiology Department of St. Vincent Hospital, and finally at Nicolet Memorial Gardens/Shrine of the Good Shepherd.

Mary Lou enjoyed knitting sweaters and baby blankets, and crocheting baptismal gowns and bibs. She loved spending summers at the Red Banks cottage, cherry picking in Door County, visiting the Shrine at Champion. She eventually moved to a permanent home on the Bay in 1971. Mary and her sisters, Rosalie and Mildred were avid Packers fans, even traveling by train to away games. Her love of reading never changed after losing her eyesight, as she was able to benefit from the Wisconsin Talking Book Library.

Her 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Spending time with them was one of the true pleasures in her life. Just hearing them calling "Grammy" as they entered, brought a smile to her face. The children were fortunate to have not just a grandmother, but a great-grandmother, who to all of them was a second mother.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Thomas Schampers, Mary Jo Maroszek, William (Joan) Schampers, Robert (Linda) Schampers, Michael (Deb) Schampers; her grandchildren, Brenda (Gary Jordan) Strzelecki, Rebecca (Jeff) Duffrin, Ben (Sarah) Maroszek, Beth (Dan) Kayhart, Bill (Barb) Maroszek, Kristine Brandt, Joel (Jenny) Schampers, Tracy (Jason Levine) Schampers, Robert (Mandy) Schampers, Kaitlyn Schampers, Heather Burgess; her great-grandchildren, Morgan Strzelecki, Emma Strzelecki, Whitley Wasielewski, Charlie Duffrin, Grace Duffrin, Paige Duffrin, Dahlia Maroszek, Nathan Maroszek, Zach Kayhart, Sophia Kayhart, Taylor Maroszek, Brody Maroszek, Shyann Maroszek, Gavin Brandt, Elana Schampers, Logan Schampers, Margaret Schampers, Lucas Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
