- Mary Jane Appleton, age 86, of Neenah, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2019, at the Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. Mary Jane was born on July 28, 1933, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, daughter of the late William and Lauretta (Schuh) Appleton. She attended Holy Cross Elementary School and Kaukauna High School. Mary Jane earned her teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse in 1955. After graduation, Mary Jane worked in Denmark, Wisconsin for two years before accepting a job with the Neenah School District. She retired from Neenah after working for many years as a counselor, physical education and English teacher.
Mary Jane enjoyed traveling and seeing the sights. She had a talent for crafts and gardening in Susies little garden. Mary Jane will always be remembered for her kind soul and willingness to help others. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family; especially her nieces, nephews, all their children, and her social group Circle.
Mary Jane is survived by her brother: William (Carol) Appleton Jr. of Waupaca, sister: Susan Appleton of Neenah; nieces: Dorothy (Mark) Standaert, Phyllis (Joe) Sprangers, Barbara (Brian) Smith, Sarah (Gary) Van Wychen, and Ellen (Mick) Adkins; and nephews: Bernard (Lori) Dietzen, and Scott Appleton. She is further survived by special friends: Patti, Joann, Sister Joann, Jan and cousin Wayne and Suzanne. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters: Dorothy Appleton and Patricia (Norbert) Dietzen.
The Funeral Liturgy for Mary Jane will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at ST. GABRIEL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with Father Bob Kollath officiating and Monsignor John Schuh concelebrating. A time of visitation will take place at church from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Kaukauna.
