- Helen M. Williams, 95, Village of Howard, entered into Eternal Life on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010. She was born in Green Bay, on Aug. 19, 1914, to the late Jules and Mary (Merchant) Charles. Helen married Bernard "Ben" Williams on April 7, 1934, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1991.
Helen devoted her life to her family and to her garden. For over 50 years, she sold her bountiful vegetables on her stand on Memorial Drive. Her loyal customers relied on her quality flowers, tomatoes, corn, peppers and squash, among her many other harvests. Many of these customers became her friends. She looked forward to seeing them each season. Several local grocery stores and restaurants also relied on her produce. Helen was also a frequent volunteer at polling stations for local and state elections, and she enjoyed her senior bingo days at Nativity Parish for many years.
Helen loved the Lord with all her heart and attended daily Mass at St. John the Baptist until she no longer drove. She truly lived a blessed life, living in and enjoying her own home and yard up until the very end. Helen truly found beauty in all of God's creations, and for that, He rewarded her with her boundless energy and her green thumb.
Helen is survived by her eight children, Gloria and Norb Oudenhoven, Jerry and Judy Williams, Ron and Joan Williams, Dick Williams, Judy Nachtwey, Jean Kerscher, Jim and Sue Williams and Tom Williams. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and June Charles, Robert and Gloria Charles; brother-in-law, Ed Giesler; and sister-in-law, Corky Charles; as well as 28 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; two sons-in-law, James Nachtwey and Tony Kerscher; her brother, Jules Charles Jr.; and sisters, Marie Cornell, Gladys Giesler and Mabel Staszak.
