    • Dyckesville - Alta (Herold) Charles, 91, Dyckesville resident, died on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at a local hospital. Alta was born June 28, 1926, in Green Bay, to the late Edward and Mary (Thyrion) Herold. She graduated in 1944 from Green Bay East High School, playing clarinet in band and enjoyed performing in plays, dancing and singing. After graduation Alta entered business school and after passing state government tests, worked at the Social Security Administration. She then was lucky enough to meet, fall in love with and marry, Richard J. Charles.

After Richard served two years in the US Navy in New Orleans, LA, they returned to Green Bay and had 3 children, David, Jeffrey, who died at the age of 32 and Laurie Charles. Laurie earned her masters degree at the Institute of Paper Chemistry and looked after her parents on weekends. There were four grandchildren, David Jr., Greg, Stephanie and Kristie Jo. David Jr. wed the former Molly Glysch; Kristi Jo wed Joseph Barbaro and Alta was blessed with six great grandchildren: James and Henry Charles, Alex Glysch, Joseph, Vincent and Kathryn Barbaro. Alta is further survived by a sister, Phyllis Rossal.

Alta and Richard lived in Green Bay all their lives, both active in the church and Alta in Community Theatre as well. Together they were married 63 years and spent winters in Ft. Myers, FL. Alta enjoyed trips to Walt Disney World with daughter Laurie. After a long life, Polycethemia and Wegners Granulomatosis finally took her home.
