      Hughes Sr., Leo E. Leo E. Hughes Sr., age 94, of Appleton, passed away, with his family by his side on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services. Leo was born March 12, 1913, in Freedom, Wisconsin, the son of the late Owen and Abby (Fermanich) Hughes Sr. On May 20, 1939, Leo was united in marriage to Marjorie "Marge" Dorschner at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton, sharing 68 years together. Leo was employed at Appleton Coated Paper Co. (Appleton Papers) for 39 years, retiring in 1975. He later worked at Moses Montefiore Cemetery for 12 years before his full retirement. Leo was a longtime member of St. Therese Catholic Church and the oldest member of the Appleton Papers Quarter Century Club. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved fishing and stock car races. But, most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

      Survivors include his loving wife Marge; four children: Dorothy (Richard) Kloes, Oconto; Leo Jr "Butch" (Janet) Hughes, Appleton; James (Sandy) Hughes, Appleton; Sharon "Shari" (Jerry) Engel, Darboy; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and a newly born great-great-grandson; two brothers: Owen (special friend Ruth) Hughes, Appleton; Thomas Hughes, California; two sisters: Gertrude (Frank) Sprister, Appleton; Lillian Seggelink, Florence, WI; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

      In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by 2 brothers Clifton Sr. and Harold Hughes; two sisters: Florence Ebben and Margaret De Bruin; also infant sister Adlaid; a sister-in-law Nellie Hughes; three brothers-in-law: Gerald Seggelink, Joseph De Bruin, and Nick Ebben.

      The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday July 12th at St. Therese Catholic Church, corner of Wisconsin Ave and Morrison Sts. Appleton, with Fr. Bill Hoffman officiating. Friends may call directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer
