    • John J. Baenen, 89, Bay Settlement, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, with family by his side. He was born in New Franken on August 27, 1928, to the late John Sr. and Viola (Naniot) Baenen. John married Dora Vandervest on October 30, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Champion, she preceded him in death on January 20, 2005. In 1990 John retired from Green Bay Packaging Mill Division after 40 years of service. He also owned and operated Baenen Repair until a few weeks before his death. John was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Church in Bay Settlement, a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a retired member of the Herman’s Club, and an honorary member of the Algoma Hunting and Fishing Club.

      He is survived by his three children: Barb (Fred) Schultz, New Franken, Merlin (Theresa) Baenen, Green Bay, and Bill (Chris) Baenen, Town of Scott; eight grandchildren: Pam (Jeff) Waise, Kim (Dave) Entringer, Kurt (Chris) Baenen, Michelle (Sean) Eddy, Chad Baenen, Nichole (Eric) Hunter, Scott (Caroline) Pelkin, and Kerry (Courtney) Baenen; 19 great-grandchildren: Alec (Ciara), Samantha, Madison, Lanceng, Lauren, Camryn, Seth, Faith, Morgan, Chaise, Jett, Emmett, Miles, Jack, Cash, Vince, Brooklyn, Dane, and Quinn; brothers, Merlin (Fatima) Baenen and Leland Baenen; sister Marjorie Boucher; along with nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in law.

      John was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Baenen; son-in-law Dan Pelkin; and sisters: Catherine Gerrits, Clara Seroogy, Marcella Kleczka, and Virginia Konshak.

      Friends may gather at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St, on Sunday, February 18, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Parish Wake Service will be at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday morning at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Rd, from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dane Radecki will preside. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.prokowall.com.

      In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established in John’s name.
