- Lillyan M. Vonck (Bechlem), age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2008. Lillyan was born on September 18, 1924, daughter of the Edward and Mathilda (Gerhartz) Bechlem, Sr. in Chilton, WI. She graduated from Chilton High School and St. Agnes School of Nursing and spent a fulfilling part of her lifetime as a registered nurse. During World War II, Lillyan spent time at the Percy Jones Military Hospital in Battle Creek, MI. This gave her an awareness of what each gave of his/her life in defense for all Americans. Lillyan also spent three seasons working on polio epidemics in various states. She did private duty nursing in the Appleton area and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Peabody Manor, and Riverview Geriatric Unit in Little Chute. Lillyan married Theodore F. Vonck on February 3, 1951 and together they raised seven children. Theodore preceded her in death on November 26, 1998. She is survived by her children: Cindy (Tom) Hopfensperger, Ted (Sarah) Vonck, Tom (Judy) Vonck, Patty (Bruce) Cottrell, Bob Vonck, Leisa (Allan) Bauser and Michael Vonck, 19 grandchildren; Chad (Leigh) Hopfensperger, Kim (Jericho) Jansen, Jenni Hopfensperger, Anna, Haley, Brian, Emily Vonck, Kevin (fiancé Maggie McCormick) Vonck, Breanna (fiancé Jake Geiger) Vonck, Kelly (fiancé Mike Markley) Vonck, Jessi, Amy and Melissa Cottrell, Brandon, Ashley and Ryan Vonck, Megan, A.J. and Katie Bauser, two great grandchildren; Lindsey and Sawyer. Lillyan is further survived by a sister; Mildred Buhl, two sisters-in-law; Alyce Bechlem and Ceal (Fran) Vande Loo, a brother-in-law; Norbert (Edna) Vonck. Lillyan was preceded in death by her husband Ted, two sisters; Dorothy Bechlem and Margaret Dawson, two brothers; William and Edward Bechlem, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Jenny (Vonck) and Thomas Busch, Dorothy (Vonck) and George Muntner, and Bobbie (Vonck) and Dick Maule. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2008 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Appleton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Valley Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of mass at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the St. Joseph Food Program in Lillyans name. Special thanks to the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living, Appleton, and Theda Clark Hospice Care who took loving care of Lillyan. To My Family, Memories to be treasured are created daily.
