- Virgil Vande Burgt, 73, Town of Vandenbroek, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, after a long illness with his family by his side. He was born September 2, 1936, in Little Chute, son of John and Antoinette (Van Ryte) Vande Burgt. Virgil was employed for the Service Bakery for several years, as well as Nash Finch, both of Appleton, until his retirement. In 1984, Virgil, along with his second wife Beth, built, owned, and operated Beth's Corner Cafe in Little Chute. Beth preceded him in death. Virgil enjoyed playing 500 Rummy with his family, doing crossword puzzles and word searches, and was a frequent visitor to the Pioneer Cafe in Kimberly.
Virgil is survived by his children: Vickie (Joe) Pynenberg, Jeff Vande Burgt, Jay (Kim) Vande Burgt; step-children: John (Chris) Ver Voort, Jean (Pat) Schmidt, Gail (Scott) Luther, Craig (Tanya) Ver Voort; 16 grandchildren: Jason (Cora) Pynenberg, Stacy Pynenberg, Bryan Henry, Brandon Shulfer, Nicholas, David, and Laura Vande Burgt, Dustin and Matt Ver Voort, Katie and Claire Schmidt, Tara Ver Voort, Alayna, Lexi, Cody, and Carly Ver Voort; 4 great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Jordan, and Joshua Pynenberg, and Christopher Vande Burgt; brothers and sisters: Rose Seegers, Jerry (Rose) Vande Burgt, Joanne (Louis) Bellin, Clayton (Agnes) Vande Burgt, Gloria (Merle) Verhagen, Duane (Shirley) Vande Burgt; former wife and friend, Marlene Allen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Virgil was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Julie Vande Burgt; grandchildren: Deanna, Cory, and Thomas; a brother-in-law, Clarence Seegers.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Fr. David Funk, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Visitation will be at the church from 2 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the mass.
