Notes - De Pere - Viola "Vi" K. Smits, 98, De Pere, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 7, 2018. She was born July 25, 1920 to the late Henry and Lydia (Henrigillis) Thomson. On August 19, 1939 Abbot Pennings united her in marriage to Aloysius Smits at St. Joseph Catholic Church, De Pere. Vi was a member of St. Boniface/Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere where she was active in the choir, helped serve funeral lunches and was a member of the Christian Mothers. At the age of 62 Vi proudly received her High School Diploma. She always said her best investment in life were her children.
She is survived by her children; Janice (Alan) Lasee, Mary (Jack) Janssen, Lori (Dean) Philipsen, Jim (Rose), Rick (Sue), Joe (Barb), Tom (Sherry), Mike (Cindy), Roche (Betty), 57 grandchildren, numerous great and great great grandchildren, 3 daughter in laws; Naydene Potter, Fran Otto, Julie Smits, son in law; Dan Greene, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 children; Allen Smits, Dan Smits, Sharon Greene, Paul Smits, 5 grandchildren; Kari, Jenna, Benjamin, Annie, Luke, as well as her siblings.
Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street De Pere after 4:00PM Sunday October 14th with a parish prayer service at 7:00PM to bring the evening to a close. Visitation will continue after 9:00AM Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM with Fr.
