      Our brother Gerald Hietpas was born in Kimberly, Wisconsin, in 1899, entered the Order in 1918 and was solemnly professed in 1923. Founder of the apostolate in Shelby, Montana in 1925, he later became the pastor in Cut Bank and then Sunburst. While in Cut Bank he was also chaplain at the B-17 Bomber Base.

      In 1955, Gerald was appointed pastor of St. John’s in Essexville, Michigan, where he built a new high school and rectory. He died suddenly in Essexville on Wednesday, January 4, 1967 at the age of 67.
