Hatley
Age 34, formerly of Wautoma, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 31, 1998, as the result of a drowning accident while ice fishing with family and friends at Big Winnie Lake at Bena, Minn.
He was born Sept. 28, 1964, at Kaukauna, the son of Gerald C. and Mary Ellen Ryan Locy.
Richard was a 1983 graduate of Wautoma High School, where he was a member of the Division II conference championship football team and the school Homecoming King. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Platteville in 1988. Richard resided in Janesville for several years before moving to Hatley six years ago. He was employed as a civil engineer for Central Wisconsin Engineers.
An avid outdoorsman, Richard made numerous annual trips out West trout fishing and ice fishing in Minnesota. He taught fly fishing classes in the spring of each year. He also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the 800 Club. He had been with the Junior Bowlers since 1976. He was Editor of the Brookie News and was a member of the Board of Directors of Trouts Unlimited. Richard enjoyed cooking and sharing his talent with family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Gerald C. and Mary Ellen Locy, Wautoma; two brothers, William (Dee) Locy and Robert Locy, both of Wautoma; three sisters, Cynthia (Richard) Rooks, Brookfield, Marilyn (Jeffrey) Dehling, Wautoma, and Jane (Todd) Chesbro, Deforest; nieces and nephews, Sara and Nick Arnoldussen, Marissa Dehing, Dana, Ryan and Fallon Locy, Katie and Austin Rooks, Jackson and Shannon Chesbro; his godchildren, Dana Locy and Nicole Reepsdorf; his godparents, Roger and Mary Gloudemans, Little Chute; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Geraldine Locy, and Tim and Marie Ryan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma with the Rev. Phillip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the services at the church. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
