    • HUBERT “HUB” BERG Appleton

      Age 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 27, 2003. Hub was born on March 18, 1925, in Grand Chute to the late Leo N. and Mary (Gitter) Berg and Isabelle (Grell) Berg, the 5th of 18 children. He married Dolores Busch on June 7, 1945, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly, Wisconsin. Hub was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Appleton. He loved his work. Hub also found great joy in family togetherness, playing cards, listening to and playing music. Hub was a loving husband, devoted father and special Grandpa. He was co-founder of the Berg and Henn Building Movers and Westgate Wrecking Company with a related salvage sales yard in Greenville. In 1970, the company contracted with Chicago Northwestern Railroad and became a full time Emergency Railroad Derailment and Rerailing Service in the upper Midwest. The firm later merged and became a wholly owned subsidiary of O. C. Boldt Construction Company. Hub served as president of the Greenville Civic Club, Wisconsin Building Movers Association and Appleton West Rotary Club. He was on the board of directors at the former Valley Western Bank in Appleton. Hub was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and Appleton Elks Club. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dolores; his five daughters, Virginia (Arnold) Isaacson, Appleton; Marlene (Charles) Mulroy, Hortonville; Barbara (David) Adkins, Virginia; Kathryn (Bryan) Dunn, Texas; and Joanne Berg, Madison; his twelve grandchildren, Kris (Todd) Larson; Douglas (Lori) Bellile, Mark (Lisa) Bellile, Pamela, Joelle (fiancée Michael) and Brian Mulroy; Jennifer and Jeffrey White; Jessica and Danielle Dunn; Erin and Nathan Nagy; his seven great grandchildren, Courtney, Ally, Jacob, Dru, Josie, Taylor and Erica; his five brothers, Jerome (Leone) Berg, California; Carlton (Jerri) Berg, Menasha; Vincent (Ione) Berg, Appleton; Victor Berg, Appleton; Adam (Char) Berg, Appleton; LaVerne Berg, Green Bay; Mildred Berg, Mackville; Verona Berg, Presque Isle; Theresa Berg, Darboy; and Anita Berg, Appleton; his four sisters, Joan Janz, Beaver Dam; Loretta (Gerald) Schultz, Seymour; Anna (Richard) Hayes, Neenah; Florence (Paul) Walker, Wautoma; and his brother-in-law, Richard DeBroux, Oshkosh. He is further survived by his wife’s family, Jeri Van Deurzen, Betty Ann (Jim) Winsted and Delores Busch. Hub was preceded in death by six brothers, Francis, Gerald, John, Leo, Peter and George; two sisters, Margaret Maxfield and Evelyn DeBroux; a brother-in-law, Peter Janz and a sister-in-law, Judy Berg. The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on May 1, 2003 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 Pine Street, Appleton, with Fr. John Bergstadt officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, Appleton, on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m and directly at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the Hubert and Dolores Berg Rotary Fund, c/o Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.
