      Mrs. Anna Katherine Klein, one of the earliest pioneers of Outagamie county, died at 7:30 o'clock Saturday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Welbes at Appleton, of general debility, at the age of 87 years and five months.

      Mrs. Klein was born in Prussia, Oct. 23, 1824, and came to Green Bay with her parents and a number of other German and Holland families in 1845. She was married to Matthias Klein on Oct. 28, 1845, and immediately settled on a farm in the town of Buchanan, half a mile north of the Holy Angels church in Darboy, being one of the earliest white settlers in the county.

      The deceased lived on the old homestead in Buchanan until ten years ago when she removed to Appleton to make her home with her daughters, her husband having died fifteen years ago.

      Mrs. Klein is survived by seven children, forty-four grandchildren and a large number of great-grandchildren. The children are: Michael, of Sauk Center, Minn.; John, of Fredonia; Peter, of Marshfield; Mrs. Mary Welbes, Appleton; Mrs. Katherine Funck, South Kaukauna; Mrs. J. W. Langenberg, and Miss Elizabeth of Appleton.

      The funeral took place Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's church, Appleton, and was attended by Kaukauna relatives.
