- Francis B. McGuire, formerly of Little Chute, age 92, passed away on Friday, August 26th at Rennes Health & Rehab Center in Appleton. Francis was born on June 5th, 1919 to the late James and Rose McGuire in Darlington, Wisconsin. He served in the United States Army during World War II as sergeant with the communications section in the 94th infantry division of General Patton's third army. After his discharge in December of 1945, he and his wife, Evelyn, resided in Kaukauna, and then moved to Appleton to raise their family. Fran was employed with Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company for over forty-one years. After his retirement in 1981, he and Evie spent many happy years at their home on Shawano Lake. Fran enjoyed fishing the lake year round; always eager to put on a fish fry for family and friends.
In later years, Fran and Evie moved to Little Chute to be near family. Here, they continued to share over 70 years of marriage together.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; son, Michael (Mary) McGuire of Sherwood, son, David (Paula) McGuire of Greenville, and daughter Kathy (Don) Lindberg of Little Chute; seven grandchildren: Brian (Stephanie) McGuire, Julie McGuire, David (Laura) McGuire, Robert McGuire, Melissa, Tony (special friend, Erin Paulson) and Megan (special friend, Nick Wolf) Lindberg; three great-grandchildren, Connor and Maia McGuire, and Aubrey McGuire; a brother, Donald McGuire of Darlington, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Marion Vande Bogart, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene & Jerry Van Handel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding his death were his parents, James and Rose (Cavanaugh) McGuire, brothers Paul, Thomas, Cecil, and infant brother, Francis McGuire; three sisters, Mercedes Diedrich, Bernadine Wendland, and Rose Marie Calvert.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna, on Monday, August 29th, 2011 with Rev. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Fran's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. With full military honors by Appleton VFW.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Rennes for their exceptional care of Fran.
Nothing was more important to Dad than his family. He especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
