      Martin Van Abel, one of the earliest settlers of Hollandtown, this county, died Saturday morning. Mr. Van Abel was born in Holland on Feb. 13, 1827, and came to this country in the spring of 1858, arriving at Green Bay on May 10. He was one of a large party of immigrants and at once proceeded to locate at what now is known as Hollandtown, where he resided ever since. Up till 1880 Mr. Van Abel conducted a grocery store, but since then has kept a hotel and saloon. In 1861 he was married to Ellen Wassenberg who survives him with a large family of children: John, Mary (Mrs. Theo. Broeren of Oregon), Hattie (Mary Henry Van Deuren of Green Bay), Annie, Michael, Henry, William, Anton and Albert. He also leaves one brother, William, and one sister, Helen, both of Hollandtown. Mr. Van Abel was well known throughout the county and enjoyed the esteem of a wide circle of friends for his upright character and kind disposition. He was a dutiful husband and father and it is in the bosom of his family that his death is deeply mourned. The funeral was held Tuesday forenoon from St. Francis' church, of which he was one of the oldest and most faithful members. A large concourse of relatives and friends paid their last respects to the memory of the deceased. The members of the St. Joseph's and St. Francis' societies, of which Mr. Van Abel was a member, attended in a body.
