He married Rita (Kersten) Koltz on May 18, 1963. Dick moved furniture for 7 years, then drove semi for Brillion Iron Works for 32 years, earning him almost 4 million safe driver miles and bringing him to 49 of the 50 states. Later in life, Dick started Always Available Seating, a successful, portable bleacher business.

He was a very active member of St Clare Catholic Parish - Greenleaf and a member of the Wayside Rough Riders Saddle Club for over 50 years. Other groups and activities Dick held very near and dear include organizing the Sesquicentennial Wagon Train and numerous other wagon trains, History on the Move, the Rail Trail, Christmas in the Barn, NEW Patriots, Farm Technology Days, Frontier Farmers, FFA, and 4-H. For numerous years, Dick brought 6 and 8 horse hitches to the Milwaukee Circus Parade and provided horse drawn rides at Heritage Hill State Park.
