- Dennis Clune, aged 82 years, a pioneer of the state and a former resident of Holland for forty years, died last week Thursday at the home of his daughter-in-law Mrs. James Clune at Niagara. His remains were brought to Kaukauna Saturday morning and interred the side of his wife and two children in the cemetery of St. Francis church, Rev. Father Vander Elsen officiating.
Mr. Clune came from Ireland in 1848 and settling in the deep woods at Hollandtown on some land he took up from the government carved himself out a home after many hardships incident to pioneer life in those early times. Twenty-two years ago his two children James Clune and Mrs. Slattery having become residents of Quinnesec, Mr. and Mrs. Clune became dissatisfied away from their society so much of the time, sold the old homestead and removed to Quinnesec. The mother died about eight years ago and was interred here in the family lot and in less than two weeks her daughter who came to Kaukauna with the body of her mother was taken sick here at a hotel and died and about the same time James, the son, was taken ill and died within a few weeks.
Dennis Clune with a rugged constitution and much older was the only survivor. Since the death of his wife he had made his home with his son's wife who tenderly cared for him when declining health came upon him and he felt the end approaching.
His brother Daniel Clune of Buchanan, now dead, was once Clerk of the Court for Outagamie county and also assessor for several years of his town.
