    • Kaukauna - Kenneth J. Van Elsen, age 98, died Thursday, February 8, 2018. He was born in Milwaukee on October 1, 1919 to the late John and Sylvia (Meulemans) Van Den Elsen. Ken married Marie Killian on October 6, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2015 after 70 years of marriage. Together, they were lifelong members of Holy Cross Parish. Ken proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a life member and past commander of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. Later, he was chosen to participate in the Old Glory Honor Flight. Ken was also a life member and past commander of the Moose Lodge. He owned and operated the Red Owl stores in Little Chute and Seymour. He then worked as a carpenter until his retirement and was a member of the Carpenters Union for over 50 years. Ken and Marie were snowbirds for 30 years, travelling to sunny Florida each winter.

      Ken is survived by his children: Lynn (Dan) Siebers, Ocala, FL; Dale (Rosemary), Kaukauna; Karen (Dennis) Seidl, Sturgeon Bay; Kathy (Richard) Janssen, Combined Locks; and Dawn (Weslie) Bougie, Appleton; grandchildren: Mark (Becky) Van Elsen, Karen (Mark) Weyenberg, Brian (Cecelia) Van Elsen, Tammy (Steve) Estes, Troy (Jessica Slavin) Seidl, Amanda (George) Langenhuizen, Ashley Janssen, Adam Janssen, Amber (Tyler) Zak, Kayla (Alex) Broehm and Lexi (fiance Matt King) Bougie; great grandchildren: Lindsay, Emily, Clayton, Allison, Madeline, Grant, Andre, Eli, Olivia, Hunter, Skylar, Cora, Tucker and 2 on the way; sister: Muriel Frank; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Jean (Herb) Hermsen, Paul (Jeanne) Killian and Bill Vanderloop. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

      In addition to his parents and wife, Marie, Ken was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Elaine "Penny" Van Elsen; siblings: Erna (Percy) Spice, Gloria (Bob) Hash and Raymond (Marlene) Van Den Elsen; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Bob Frank, Joyce Vanderloop, Rita (Frank) Wagner and Bob (Claire) Killian.

      Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at HOLY CROSS PARISH (309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Pomeroy will officiate. Military rites, conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, will immediately follow. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery.
