Dale M. Van Straten Shiocton, WI Age 84, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday evening, November 15, 2000. He was born on December 29, 1915, in the Town of Liberty, the son of the late Henry and Rose (Dollar) Van Straten. Dale attended the Shiocton High School and on January 5, 1937, he married Phyllis Pries. Together they farmed in the Shiocton area for many years. She preceded him in death in 1980. On January 17, 1983, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Riehl. Dale enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting, and trapping, as well as traveling. He was a lifelong member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton. Dale is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Lorraine (Riehl) Van Straten; four sons: Ronald (Barb), Shiocton; William (Cheryl), Shiocton; Tim (Sandee), Combined Locks; Mark (Lorene), Appleton; three daughters: Norita "Rita" (Gary) Barrington, Manawa; Cheryl (Nick) Hofacker, Appleton; Susan (Paul) Schmidt, New London; a daughter-in-law, Cleda Van Straten, London, Kentucky; 29 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; three stepsons: Ralph (Loretta) Riehl, Hortonville; Glen (Marion) Riehl, Shiocton; Keith (Kris) Riehl, Shiocton; a stepdaughter: Susie Roloff, New London; 13 step grandchildren and 23 step-great-grandchildren; a brother: Roy Van Straten, Shiocton; a sister: Margaret (Bobby) Gill, Marietta, Georgia; two sisters-in-law: Lillian Van Straten, Shiocton; and Isabelle Fries, Kimberly; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Merlin (Vi) Fries, Fremont. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Rose (Dollar) Van Straten; his wife of 44 years, Phyllis; infant twin sons: James and John; a son: Terry; a daughter-in-law: Charlotte (Thieme) Van Straten; two grand children: Todd and Core Van Straten; three brothers: Raymond, Harold (Marcella), and Lloyd (Marion); four sisters: Irene, Helen, Catherine, and Frances (Tootie); brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Lyle and Genevieve Fries, Cyril; a step daughter-in-law: Karen Riehl; and a step great grandson: Jessie Griesbach. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2000, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton with Fathers Joseph L. Bestller and Charles R. Brooks concelebrating the Mass. Internment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday (TODAY) from 5 until 9 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in Shiocton is assisting the family. We love you Dad. Thank you for all your wonderful stories. We will always love and miss you.
