      Age 84, died on Monday, July 2, 2012 at his home in Greenleaf. He was born on June 9, 1928 in Little Chute, son of the late Martin and Minnie (Bergman) Vanden Heuvel. On February 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Maes who preceded him in death after 39 years of marriage. On October 11, 1991 he was married to Doris Brochtrup. James retired from the Kimberly Mill after 44 years of service. In his retirement, he very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, dancing, and playing cards. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family "up nort" at his cabin in Merrill. He was a member of St. Clare Parish/St. Patrick Church-Askeaton.

      James is survived by his wife of 20 years, Doris Vanden Heuvel; his nine children: James H. (Karen) Vanden Heuvel, Nancy (John) Wilson, Dan (Diane) Vanden Heuvel, Jean (Gordon) Schroeder, Karl (Patricia) Vanden Heuvel, Lee (special friend Mary) Vanden Heuvel, Tony (Julie) Vanden Heuvel, Jon (Kimberly) Vanden Heuvel, and Amy (Steve) Schilhabel; 26 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 5 more on the way; a sister, Dorothy Mae Lemke; a brother, George (Jan) Vanden Heuvel; 6 step-children: Sue (Tony) Schmidt, Faye (Pat) Baeten, Dan (Renee) Brochtrup, Connie (Jeff) Stordock, Greg (Judy) Brochtrup, and Kurt Brochtrup; 9 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. James was also preceded in death by 2 brothers: Rich and Jerry, 3 sisters: Grace Daul, Bernice Baumgart, and Viola Toonen, 5 grandchildren: April, Sarah, Todd, Faith, and James, and 2 great-grandchildren: Margaret and Lucy.

      The Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 6, 2012 at ST. CLARE PARISH/ST. PATRICK CHURCH-ASKEATON, 7815 St. Pat's Church Road, Greenleaf with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken celebrating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery in Kimberly. Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna on Thursday from 4-8 PM where a parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM and again at the church on Friday from 9 AM until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in James' name.

      The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Yao and the staff at AMC, the Martha Sieckman Cancer Center, and Theda Care Hospice.
