    • My maternal great grandfather was Robert Ambrosius. He was born in 1925 in Depere, WI and grew up in Wrightstown. When he was only 17 years old he wanted to serve in World War II. So he had his father sign papers for him so he could join his friends and fight in the war. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Wasp in the Pacific Theater from 1943-1946. His ship was actually bombed by the Japanese. He was close to the area that was bombed but was unharmed. When he left the war in 1946 he came home and was without a job. He found an entry level position at the bank in DePere. In 1949 he married Genevieve Verbeten and moved to Lena, WI. He worked at the Suring State Bank in Lena and then at the Hilbert State Bank. In 1960, my great grandfather and grandmother moved to Brillion. He then served as president of the Calumet County Bank in Brillion until retiring in 1984. He had been an active member of the community and of the Brillion Chamber of Commerce. During retirement, he enjoyed traveling and golfing with his wife. He died in 2002 at the age of 76.
