- Georgina Margaret Banks, age 86, of Berlin, died peacefully Monday evening, March 2, 2009, in the loving atmosphere of Juliette Manor Nursing Home of Berlin. Georgie was born on August 8, 1922, in Appleton, the first born of Arthur and Rose (nee: Kampo) Cronin. The family moved to Milwaukee, where she was educated at Saint John Cathedral, and graduated from Bay View High School. She enlisted in 1943 and became a United States Marine, and was stationed in Arlington, VA. She supported her childhood sweetheart, Michael E. Banks, also a Marine during his extensive duty in the Pacific theater serving with the Marine Corps Raiders, throughout World War II. After their return to Milwaukee, they were married on May 25, 1946, at the Cathedral of Saint John. They were blessed with three children.
She was an active member of the Woman Marines Association, WI-1, volunteer with Saint Francis Hospital Pink Ladies and together with Mike, was active in many of the ministries of the Cathedral. Georgia was employed at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company at the home office of Milwaukee, becoming part of its family, until her retirement. In 2001, they moved to Berlin, and became members of All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin.
Survivors include her faithful husband of 62 years, Mike, of Berlin; children; Cynthia "Cindy" (John) Skipchak, of Berlin, with their children Jason Skipchak, of Saint Louis, MO, Kristin (Mike) Hasslinger, of Milwaukee, Robin (friend-Ryan Quinn), of Berlin; Timothy "Tim" Banks (special friend Nicole Bissell) of Franklin, son Max, and his mother Nanette Banks, of Franklin; Michele (Mike) Knapp, of Sussex, their sons, Alex, Elliot, and Evan, of Sussex; sister, Helen (Florian) Wind, of Milwaukee; brother, James (Esther) Cronin, of Las Cruces, NM; nieces, nephews, other relatives and scores of friends.
Georgina was preceded in death by her parents, and nephew Ronald Wind.
Funeral services with A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009, at All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jerome Maksvytis officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery of Berlin, with full military honors.
Relatives and friends may call at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin on Thursday evening, March 5, 2009, from 4 until 8 p.m., with a parish rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. and may also call at the Funeral Home on Friday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. before we leave for the services at the church.
The staff of Juliette Manor and Saint Agnes Hospice Hope will always be treasured for their love, joy and comfort they brought to Georgina and our family during these last months.
