- Death of Mrs. John Hockers
Mrs. John Hockers, for over fifty years a resident of this vicinity, passed away at her home on N. Superior Street, Saturday afternoon, November 15, aged 76 years, 8 months and 15 days, her death being the result of a complication of diseases. Mrs. Hockers, nee Mary Anna Roffers, was born at Wansum, Holland, February 28, 1848, and came to this country in 1873, just before her marriage to Mr. Hockers. Mr. and Mrs. Hockers settled in the town of Ashwaubenon, where they resided until in the spring of 1908, when they moved to this city to spend their declining years in comfort and contentment. Mr. and Mrs. Hockers celebrated their golden wedding April 17, 1923. Mrs. Hockers is survived by her husband and eleven children, who mourn the loss of a devoted and loving wife and mother; she is also survived by 49 grandchildren and one brother, John Roffers of West De Pere. The children are: Charles, Henry, Jacob, Joseph, Albert, Louis and Leo, all living in or near De Pere; Anna and Mary at home, and Jane (Mrs. G. Ford) of De Pere and Lena (Mrs. R. Fournier) of Kewaunee. The funeral was held from St. Mary's church Tuesday morning, Rev. Father Van Roosmalen officiating. Rev. Father Alger, O. Praem, was in the sanctuary. The pallbearers were P. Francken, John Broekman, M. Haanen, C. Danen, Sylv. Smits and J. A. Kuypers. Interment was in Mount Olivet cemetery. The large attendance at the services showed the esteem in which the deceased had been held. Among those present from out of town were Mrs. P. Randerson and daughter of Little Chute, and George Timmers and family, Mrs. W. Kerkhoff, Mrs. Al. Van Boxtel and H. Engels and children of Green Bay.
