    • W. L. (Bert) Baeten, 79, 1080 Hansen Rd., Ashwaubenon, died Tuesday afternoon at a Green Bay hospital after a short illness. One of 11 children, he was born Nov. 3, 1906 to the late Peter and Gertrude (Ambrosius) Baeten. After graduating from St. Norbert High School, he worked at the Bank of W. De Pere (now the Marine Bank). On June 12, 1932, he married Mary Ellen Gallagher at St. Francis Church, De Pere. During World War II he served with the SeaBees in the South Pacific. Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned to work at the bank and shortly after he was named Executive President, a position he held until his retirement in 1971. He was a graduate of the Wisconsin School of Banking.

      The Baetens enjoyed traveling and were proud of their prize-winning show dogs and riding horses.

      Survivors include his wife, Mary; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Robinson, Green Bay; Mrs. Wilma Ryan, Clearfield, Pa.; Miss Martha Baeten, De Pere; Mrs. Beatrice McAbee and her husband, J.C. McAbee, Deerfield, Ill.; Sister Mary Bede Baeten, St. Joseph Academy, Green Bay; many nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Elizabeth Baeten, Mrs. Nora Burgoyne and Mrs. Helen Anderson, two brothers, Peter and John Baeten.

      Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. 10th St., De Pere, from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, De Pere, with the Rev. Gilbert Jacobs officiating. Burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
