- James "Jim" C. Hogan, 82, Green Bay, WI died peacefully at home Friday morning, May 3, 2013. He was born June 28, 1930 to the late Clarence and Olive (Du Chateau) Hogan in Chicago, IL.
Jim married Joan De Prey on June 9, 1956 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and together they raised 6 children over 57 years.
Jim attended St. John the Evangelist grade school. Jim graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1948. He graduated from St. Norbert College in 1956 with a B.A. in Philosophy. In 1977, Jim also earned a Varsity Letter from Abbot Pennings High School in DePere for Jazz Band, where he provided his talents to the Jazz Band when they were in need of a drummer.
Jim was drafted into the United States Army and served from February 1953 to February of 1955.
Jim worked for the Green Bay Catholic Diocese his entire 47 year career. Early on he was a social worker and also held the roll of Executive Director of the Diocesan Services Appeal, HR Manager and Bishop's Charities Game Coordinator.
Jim received numerous recognitions and awards throughout his life for his commitment to others and the community including: 1961 Green Bay Outstanding Young Man Award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce, 1962 Five Outstanding Young Men Award from the Wisconsin Junior Chamber of Commerce, 1968 Central Catholic-Premontre Alumni Award for Outstanding Leadership & Dedication to the Community and School, 1974 Premontre High School Board of Education for Outstanding Leadership & dedication toward the advancement & betterment of Premontre, 1974 Knighthood of St. Gregory the Great, 1979 St. Norbert College Distinguished Achievement Award in Humanities, 1981 John .P Cofrin Humanitarian Award from the Fort Howard Paper Foundation, 1983 National Catholic Stewardship Council Excellence in Diocesan Campaign Award, 1985 Town of Allouez Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Community Service and 2006 St. Norbert College Golden Knights.
Jim also served on many boards throughout his life including the Brown County Library, Neville Public Museum, Board of Education Premontre High School, and Alumni President for both Premontre and St. Norbert College and he and Joan served as chairpersons of the Abbot Pennings Parents Club. He was a member of the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, was active in St. Mary's Hospital Building Drive, the organization COMBAT, Holy Name Society, Our Lady of Charity and Sacred Heart Seminary Guild. He was also Scout Master of Allouez. He especially enjoyed working on the Bishop's Charities Game, the Spaulding Endowment Golf Outing and the National Group of Diocesan Fund Raisers.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Denis and Irene, Brigid, Kevin and Margaret; daughter, Eileen and Marvin "Keith" Braxton, Zachary and Blaire; son, Michael and Rose, Lauren, Benjamin and Micheala; daughter, Kate Hogan and Mark Rudolph, Bailey and Mitchell; son, Patrick and Jill, Kelly and Conor; daughter, Claire and Steve Williams, Morgan (Vande Hei) and Elizabeth.
He is further survived by his sister-in-law Joan C. Hogan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Irene De Prey, John and Nancy DePrey and their families; sisters-in-law, Phyllis De Prey, Ann De Prey, Mary Rose De Prey, Ceil De Prey and Katherine Huisman and many niece and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard "Dick" Hogan; niece, Mary Hogan Bencini; nephew, Mark Gnadt; nephew, Matthew De Prey and his extended family of Hogan aunts and uncles who helped raise him; sister-in-law, Veronica Gnadt; brother-in-law, Joseph DePrey; sister-in-law, Patricia (Gaynor) De Prey; his best and life-long friend, Urban Schumacher.
Jim was most fond of Dick and Joan Hogan's family: Mary, Kathy, Bobby, Julie, Mark, Sara, Amy and Molly; as well as his great friend, Urban and Judy Schumacher's family: Ann, Jimmy, Joe, John, Liz and Carrie.
Friends may call at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., Allouez, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 6. The visitation will continue at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at the church with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
A memorial fund is established in Jim's name to benefit the Brown County United Way, 1245 Main St. Green Bay, WI 54305 or to the charity of your choice .
The family wishes to thank the doctors and their staffs and friends who shared in his health journey in recent years including: Dr. Jeremy Green, Dr. Cynthia Overly, Bishop Robert Morneau and Fr. John Van Deuren. We also wish to thank the health care professionals who assisted Jim and Joan with Jim's care, especially, Danielle, and Nancy.
