  • Notes
    • Emmett James McMorrow "Mac" passed away peacefully on September 5, 2011, surrounded by the family he so loved. Emmett was born on June 22, 1925, to James and Mary (Hartzheim) McMorrow. He attended Holy Cross Grade School and Kaukauna High School. He also took many classes, especially those related to woodworking, through Fox Valley Technical School. He was an excellent craftsman, and a perfectionist in all he did.

Emmett married the love of his life, Mary Joyce Hietpas, on August 28, 1948. She survives. Emmett was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He gave freely and generously of his time and talents.

He was an active, life-long member of Holy Cross Parish, serving as an usher for many years and donating his time and talents wherever needed. Emmett was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had a deep faith in God, living his life as a true Christian.

Emmett served in the Navy on the USS South Dakota during World War II. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3319. He recently was able to participate in an "Old Glory Honor Flight" and had the opportunity to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Mac was employed as a lineman by Kaukauna Utilities for his entire working career, retiring in 1987.

Emmett was very proud of his Irish heritage and celebrated with his friends and family whenever the occasion presented itself, but especially on March 17. Throughout his life he remained active and always had several projects he was working on - many of them for his children and grandchildren. He will leave a very large hole in all of our hearts.

Emmett is survived by his children: Pat (Dave) Plutz, Sue (Guy) Hartjes, Mark (Janice), Ann (Don) Bies, Mike (Deb), Mary (Gary) Behling, Dan (Connie), Bob (Sara) and John (Sue). He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, his brother Tom (Lois), sister Sally (Jesse) Bevers, brothers and sisters-in-law Thelma McMorrow, June Stuyvenberg, Russ Harmon, Luke (Rosie) Hietpas, Mike (Jo) Hietpas, Mark (Linda) Hietpas, John (Shirley) Hietpas, Tom (Sheila) Hietpas, Lois Hietpas, Clare (Lee) VanBoxtel, Sheila (Clyde) Schepp, and Margaret (Carl) Peeters, his special hunting and fishing buddy. Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother in law, John and Elizabeth Hietpas, a grandson, Elliot McMorrow, brothers Jim and Jack, and brothers and sisters-in-law Mary McMorrow, Matthew Hietpas, Helen Harmon, Don Hietpas, Dorothy Hietpas, Evelyn Hietpas, Claude Hietpas, and Bob Stuyvenberg.

The funeral liturgy for Emmett will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at HOLY CROSS CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Full military honors will follow the mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established at Holy Cross Church.

Emmett was a friend to everyone he met and has left us many wonderful and cherished memories. He will remain forever in our hearts.
