- MADISON - Alice K. Helf, age 97, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Sebring Assisted Care Residence in Madison, after a life ending struggle with cancer. Born in Golden Township, Oceana County, Mich., Dec. 24, 1909. Alice was a daughter of the late Anthony and Laura (Mahew) Snyder. Following graduation from high school, she attended and graduated from Davenport Business School in Grand Rapids, Mich. Alice was united in marriage to Ken Roche, who passed away in 1965. On Nov. 29, 1969, she married Jerome F. Helf at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 1990. Alice worked for the Sheboygan County Courthouse system, retiring Jan. 1, 1975. She was a longtime member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Alice also enjoyed knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, watching the Cubs, playing the organ and visits from her great-grandchildren, Lauren and Lydia. Alice is survived by a stepson, John (Julie) Helf of Middleton; a stepdaughter, Linda (Lon) Ziehm of Onalaska; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) Cliff of Middleton, Matthew (fiancee, Sarah Freels) Helf of Chicago and Paul Ziehm of Onalaska; two step great-grandchildren, Lauren Cliff and Lydia Cliff of Middleton; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Thomas Helf, Oct. 1, 2000; as well as four sisters, Marguerite Bliss, Louise Snyder, Crystal Younts and Carmen Dennison; and four brothers, Arthur, Robert, Clyde and Paul Snyder. A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice K. Helf will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2007, at ST. DOMINIC CATHOLIC CHURCH with the Rev. John J. Radetski officiating. Visitation will be held at ST. DOMINIC CATHOLIC CHURCH, Geele Avenue, at 21st Street, Sheboygan, on Saturday, May 12, 2007, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Mears Cemetery in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Novak-Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home of Sheboygan is serving the Helf family. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the exceptional staff at Sebring Assisted Living. Their care, love and support for Alice were quite special.
