      A Mass of Christian burial for Lawrence A. "Larry" Kindel of Gaston will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Forest Grove, with the Rev. William Holtzinger officiating. Interment will be in Visitation Cemetery, Verboort.

      Mr. Kindel died May 26, 2003, in Newberg. He was 78.

      He was born May 12, 1925, in Forest Grove, the son of Julius and Jane Vandervelden Kindel.

      He and Clara C. Meeuwsen were married May 27, 1952, in Roy.

      He worked in the seed industry, starting at C.C. Ruth in Cornelius. In 1959, he went into business with his brothers, operating Sunrise Seed Cleaning in the Bethany area. The business later moved to North Plains and Mr. Kindel remained a co-owner and operator until he retired for health reasons in 1976. He also farmed for many years.

      Mr. Kindel was a lifelong member of the Catholic church. He had attended Visitation Catholic Church, Verboort, and St. Anthony Catholic Church, Forest Grove. He enjoyed golf, traveling, gardening and playing board games.

      Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Janet Warrington of McMinnville and Angela Weidner and Laura Kindel, both of Yamhill; four sons, Stephen Kindel of Carlton, Mark Kindel of Yamhill, David Kindel of Gaston and Brian Kindel of Bend; two sisters, Genny Vanderzanden of North Plains and Helen Senz of North Bend; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

      He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Kindel, in 1975.
