- Genevieve Mary (Kindel) Vanderzanden, 85, a longtime resident of the Roy community and recently of North Bend, OR, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at Baycrest Village in North Bend.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on August 12, 2007 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy, Oregon.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on August 13, 2007 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Roy with graveside committal immediately following the mass at the St. Francis Cemetery in Roy.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the committal service at St. Francis Grade School in Roy.
Genny was born on July 13, 1922, in Verboort, OR, one of six children born to Julius and Jane (Vandervelden) Kindel. She was raised and received her education in Verboort having graduated from Verboort High School.
She was united in marriage to Paul Vanderzanden on May 24, 1948, in Verboort, OR. Following their marriage, they bought and lived on the Vanderzanden family farm until they retired and relocated to Soap Lake, WA. They returned to North Plains, OR., in 1998, and recently moved to North Bend, OR.
Genny had worked at Providence Hospital before settling on the farm and becoming a homemaker. While in Soap Lake, Genny volunteered at a nursing home and made many new friends.
Although they had no children of their own, Genny and Paul enjoyed having nieces and nephews spend the summers. She also enjoyed helping her husband out on the farm, gardening, quilting, playing cards, fishing, "bumming" with lifelong friend Clara Braukmann and time spent with family.
Genny was a lifelong devoted member of the Catholic Church, and volunteered in each parish where she lived.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jane & Julius Kindel and four brothers: Howard, Robert, William and Lawrence Kindel.
Survivors include her husband Paul Vanderzanden of North Bend, OR, her sister Helen Senz of North Bend, OR, and many nieces and nephews.
