- Debra Lynn Wavrunek, 56, Green Bay, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at home with family, after a brief battle with cancer. Deb was born May 12, 1959, in Green Bay to William and Janice Van Handel. She married Mike Wavrunek on July 11, 1981. In August of 1999, Deb and Mike started their arts and crafts business together.
Debra was a longtime member and volunteer for St. Phillip the Apostle School. She also volunteered for Grad Night at Preble High School. Deb enjoyed her bus trips to the Casino. She had a passion for her craft work and going to the arts and crafts shows. Deb also enjoyed playing in her dart and volleyball leagues, and spending time up north with her family and playing cribbage. However, she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Debra is survived by her husband, Michael Wavrunek; sons, David (Jennifer) Wavrunek and Jacob (Jolie) Wavrunek; grandchildren, Claire, Jack and Lincoln Wavrunek; brothers, Michael (Carolyn) Van Handel and Ronald (Jennifer) Van Handel; sister, Stacy (Elliot) Ness; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Rosemary Wavrunek; sisters-in-law, Christine Wavrunek, Sharon Wavrunek and Linda (Brian) Derewicz; best friends, Barb and Al Ledvina; aunts, uncles,nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Norbert and Marie Schmechel and William and Marie Van Handel.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 2:00-6:00pm on Sunday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 6:00pm on Sunday at the Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St., from 9:00-11:00am on Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am on Monday at the Church with Rev. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Deb's name.
Deb's family would like to thank her neighbors, Bonnie and Joe, Larry and Mary, Lloyd and Lois, as well as the staffs of St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice for all of their support and care.
