      Metz, John (Jack) John Metz, 75, Keshena, died on Sunday, July 8, 2007, unexpectedly at his home from complications of cancer. John Nicholas Metz, the son of Nicholas and Anna Vandenburg Metz was born on Sept. 14, 1931, in Little Chute, Wis. He graduated in 1949 from St. John's School in Little Chute. John served in the U.S. Army as a M.P. during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Hawaii. He was then united in marriage to Elizabeth Jansen. After their marriage, John started a beer and liquor store in Little Chute and worked as a wire weaver at Appleton Wire Works. In 1960, he bought Jacks or Better in downtown Little Chute which he owned and operated until 1983. Later he bought into the Lilac Plantation in Gillett until his retirement in 2005. On Aug. 12, 2000, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Julie Ann Rose, at Legend Lake Lodge in Keshena, Wis. Jack was very involved in the American Legion, serving as post commander in 1966 of the Little Chute American Legion and in 1973 was state vice commander. His passions in life included, sailing, reading to his wife, woodworking, chess, playing the piano, cribbage, boxing in his early year's, spending time with his friends, and also his home which he called paradise. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and St. Michael's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Margaret Metz, Little Chute; Jim and (Beth) Metz, Port Charlotte, Fla.; Jacquline Metz, Little Chute; and Anna and (Jimbo) Oninski, Oconto Falls; Tom and (Debbie) Christensen, New Jersey; Karin and (Dian) Boothe, Singapore; Lisa Geoheghen, Green Bay; Hans and (Lisa) Christensen, Mokena, Ill.; Eric Christensen, Green Bay; Janna Christensen, Ocean Springs, Miss.; Sandra and (Richard) Patterson, Annapolis, Md.; and John and (Melissa) Christensen, Houston, Texas; 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Peter and (Carol) Hennig, Elkhorn, Wis.; and James and (MaryAnn) Rose, Denmark, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, AnnaBelle Hammen, and Marjorie VandenBurgt; and his infant twin brother, James. Friends may call at the Jones Funeral Service (920-848-2222, or visit www.jonesfuneralservice.com on Tuesday, July 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at St. Michael's Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with Fr. Dave Barrett officiating. Interment will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery in Keshena with full military rites.
