    • Popcorn Stand Man, Charles City, Dies
      Charles City -- Funeral services for Sam Bernard Ross, 74, who operated a popcorn stand here for the past 30 years, will be held at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic church. The Rev. John J. Smith will officiate and burial will be in a Nashua cemetery. Mr. Ross died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at his home, 414 Freeman street, having been ill for about 3 weeks.
      Mr. Ross was born at Dyersville Nov. 8, 1876, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Ross. He was married to Hattie Lashbrook June 9, 1903, and the couple farmed near Bancroft and Algona before coming to Charles City in 1912. He worked here for the Hart-Parr tractor company prior to opening his popcorn stand which he has operated ever since.
      Survivors are his wife, Hattie, one son, Lawrence Ross, Waterloo, Mrs. Carol Bullen, Vinton, and Mrs. Alfred Dickman, Nashua; two brothre, Joe Ross of Wisconsin and Ben Ross of California, and two grandchildren.
