    • Dennis Eugene Manion of rural Alliance died July 7, 2014 at his home. He was born March 25, 1947 in Alliance, NE to Thomas and Madaline (Gasseling) Manion. He attended rural school districts 60 and 40, graduated St. Agnes Academy in 1965 and Chadron State College in 1969. He taught Industrial Education in the Lyons Public Schools before returning to Box Butte County as a self-employed contractor. In 1990, he became a partner in his father’s farm/ranch operation. He gave countless volunteer hours to the Box Butte County Fair, St. Bridget’s Parish and other organizations.

      He is survived by his four children, Shawn Kristen Manion of Lincoln, Shane Ryan Manion (Erin Messersmith) of Lincoln, Boone Jeremiah Manion (Jessica Burke) of Alliance, Michael Padraic (Jolene) Manion of Omaha, and his grand-daughter Taylor Manion. He is also survived by his mother of Alliance and sister, Kathy (Tom) Kirchner of Lincoln, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

      Preceding him in death are his father, his brother William, and his sister Colleen.

      A wake service will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Friday, July 11 at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church with Father Lou Nollette officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance and at the wake service.
