August Dorn was born at Templeberg near Tettein, in Germany, March 25, 1849, having just passed his seventy-fourth birthday. His parents were Carl and Christina Dorn. He came to this country with his parents in 1860. The family landed at Quebec and came to Oshkosh by way of Green Bay. They lived there three years and then moved to Fond du Lac in 1868 coming to the farm on the town line road on July 4th of that year.
On March 30, 1875 he was united in marriage to Caroline Nietzel of Black Wolf. They settled on the home place above mentioned. The farm was all woodland with the exception of a small two acre clearing. Mr. and Mrs. Dorn cleared the land and have made of it an excellent farm. Besides his farm work he found time to be an enthusiastic public citizen. In 1914 Mr. and Mrs. Dorn retired from farm life and came to the village. They resided one year in the house now occupied by the Sisters of St. Mary's church. In 1915 they purchased a home on South Military of Adam Sheriff where they since made their home. About a year ago they moved to the farm where their son, Edwin resided. Mr. Dorn's health has been poor for several months and on Feb. 3rd he took to his bed and failed gradually until death claimed him his illness being stomach trouble and complication of diseases.
