    • Joyce H. (Letter) Van Straten, 83, Green Bay, passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. She was born June 14, 1927, in Seymour, to William and Anna (Gomm) Letter. On Aug. 28, 1947, she married Neil L. Van Straten at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

      Joyce retired from J.C. Penney in 1989 after over 25 years of service. She and her husband were active members of St. Joseph Parish.

      Joyce loved to cook for her family and friends. They all enjoyed her never empty cookie jar. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who instilled love in all who knew her.

      Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Neil; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Sally Van Straten; two daughters, Nancy Van Straten and Gary Parpovich, Shari Van Straten; four grandchildren, Ben (Shannon) Van Straten, Jacob Van Straten, Joshua (Monica) DeSilvey, Sarina (Brian) Baker; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Daniel, Miles; a sister, Gladys Sigl; one brother and four sisters-in-law, James and Bernice Letter, Bernice "Bun" Letter, LaVern George, Jeanne Hermes; nieces and nephews.

      Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Bertha (VanderHeiden) Van Straten; two brothers, Henry and Cyril Letter; three sisters, Katherine Kobriger, Rosemary Klein, Bernice VandenBerg; two infant siblings, Margaret and Gerald Letter.

      Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Friends may also call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave., from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Donald Everts officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
