- Sister Mary Golden, age 88, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
The former Elaine Golden was born on February 14, 1926 in Appleton, daughter of the late Richard and Margaret (Breenen) Golden. She entered the Convent in 1945 and professed her vows in 1948. Sister Mary served as an elementary teacher at St. Paul, Manitowoc, St. Patrick, Greenleaf, Wisconsin and St. Agnes, Mingo Junction, Ohio. She also served as a nurse's aide/helper in St. Rita Health Center and performed various tasks at Ozanam Home, New Berlin, and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Since 2003, she has been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Florence and Frank Heckrodt, Delray Beach, Florida (winter) Appleton, Wisconsin (Summer), Marge and Tom Kussow, De Pere, Wisconsin; one sister-in-law: Rosemary Coffey, Champaign, Illinois; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Richard and Margaret (Breenen) Golden; one sister and brother-in-law: Marie and Donald Gerhartz; and one brother: William Coffey.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Finian Zaucha, O.F.M. with burial to follow at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2015 and Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
