    • Gay, Rachel

Our Mom, Rachel Gay went "Home" to meet Jesus on September 9, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family, holding her hands as she made the transition. Rachel was born July 21, 1913 to the late Henry and Mary Verheyen. Mom was a direct descendant of the first settlers in Ashwaubenon, her Grandfather Joseph Vercauteren settled here May 19, 1872 on Circle Drive. She was very proud of the story and told it often. On September 23, 1937 she married Ray Gay at St. Boniface Church in De Pere. Together they raised 5 children and farming was their life for many years. After that she worked for Julie Ann Fabrics in Green Bay for 10 years. Rachel was a member of St. Boniface Parish for many years & also Our Lady of Lourdes. Another part of her life was being a Charter member of the Happy Hearts Homemaker Club, which she enjoyed immensely. Rachel had many passions, some of which were Faith in the Lord, taking care of her children, going to their cottage on Kelly Lake with Ray each summer, having fun with her Homemaker friends, taking care of "Shorty" her dog, playing & teasing her grandchildren and teaching her children & grandchildren that hard, honest work was important, but good fun was also very important to our Mom. Rachel was a very caring & generous person, taking people into her home, feeding & clothing them.

She is survived by her 5 children Donna Van Egeren, John (Carol) Gay, Mike (Sharon) Gay, Marianne (Dave) Boyer and Robert Gay. Rachel is also survived by her 13 grandchildren Kathy (Tony) Doxtator, Patrick (Paula) Van Egeren, Carrie (Chad) Diedrick, Julie (Craig) Schmidt, Tim Gay, Jodi (Nick) Zerillo, Michael (Aimee) Gay, Kelly Gay, Shelly (Kevin) Gallenberg, Renee Lemmen, Dana (Jessie) Haro, Jonathan Bougie, Andrew (Jessy) Gay, and step grandchildren Chelsea (Travis) Antone, Giovanni Doxtator, Alex Boyer, Amber Boyer. She is further survived by her great grandchildren; Sommer, Dante, Devin, Alexis, Madison, Gabriella, Michael, Mackenzie, Sophia, Isaac, Alaina, Courtney, Drake, Angelina, Riley, Trent, Dominic, Jamie, Leilah, Logan, Dylan, Alexandria, Gianna, Everly, McKenna and Brenna. Rachel's grandchildren were the light of her life, telling each one of they were her "favorite".

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her son-in-law Bill Van Egeren, her parents Henry and Mary Verheyen. Rachel's siblings Frances (Fred) Aerts, Leo (Florence) Verheyen and Mary (Clarence) VanderMissen also preceded her in death as well as Ray's family Joseph (Anna) Gay, Alvina Gay and Louis (Angeline)Gay.

Please join us in celebrating the life of Rachel Gay, on Monday September 15, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave and Suburban Drive in De Pere. The visitation will begin at 9am and end with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Fr. Tim Shillcox O. Praem officiating. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the family. The family respectfully requests wearing bright colorful attire in honor of Rachel's 101 years of life.

Mom's last brightness she brought to us before she left on her journey to be with Dad was her bright smile & eyes - leaving a warm lasting memory for all of us.

Rachel's family would especially like to thank Dee for the loving care she gave our Mom. She has touched our hearts & spirits with love which will never be forgotten. Additionally we would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, Woodside & Unity Hospice for their loving thoughtful care for our Mom.
