Soldotna resident Kenneth John Nushart, 70, died Aug. 18, 2004, at Elmendorf hospital. Memorial services were at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna. The Rev. John Holleman officiated. His ashes will be laid to rest at his son's memorial tree.
Mr. Nushart was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Kaukauna, Wis., where he was raised. He graduated from Kaukauna High School. Mr. Nushart entered the U.S. Army in 1956, serving as a military policeman while was stationed in Germany. He was an expert marksman and was honorably discharged in 1958. Mr. Nushart first moved to Anchorage in 1980 and moved to Soldotna in 1991. He had worked at St. Jude's Children Home in Nevada and at the Kenai Care Center, from which he retired in 2000. Mr. Nushart was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Soldotna. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and being with his family. His family wrote: "Ken will be missed by all who loved him, including his fishing family and friends. He loved to laugh and made everyone around him happy. Sunday BBQs were a family tradition. Ken's love for life will be carried on in all who knew him." Mr. Nushart was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Nushart; father-in-law, George Mielke; and son, Ken "Kip" Nushart.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Lou Nushart of Soldotna; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Susie Nushart of Menasha, Wis., and Keith and Dawn Nushart of Soldotna; daughters and son-in-law, Kim and Steve Russell of Kenai, and Kris Nushart of Soldotna; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Cliff and Susie Nushart of Greenleaf, Wis.; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Greg Vandervelden of De Pere, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Gorski, Shirley and her husband George Majeski, Chris and her husband Allen Eldred, Marge Hartmann, Patricia and her husband Al Lisowe, and Georgie and her husband Larry Spietz; brother-in-law, Don Mielke; sister-in-law, Janice and her husband Jim Lamers; and mother-in-law, Sally Mielke of Sherwood, Wis. Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
