Pleier, Norman E. Norman E. Pleier, age 90, of Appleton, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute. Norm was born September 27, 1915, in Appleton, the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Kitzinger) Pleier and has resided in Appleton all of his life. He was united in marriage to Bessie M. Platte on June 19, 1937, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. Norm was employed by J. J. Plank Co., for over 46 years and for several years by the Appleton Fire Department.
He was a faithful member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Men of St. Bernard. Norm will be remembered as a loving husband and father who was always supportive of his children. He especially enjoyed working in his yard and volunteering at his church.
Survivors include his loving wife Bessie; son Richard (Patricia) Pleier and daughter Susan (Robert) Ascher, both of Appleton; four grandchildren: Brittany Hanlen, Michael Pleier, Lisa (Tony) Halverson, and Jeff Ascher; six great-grandchildren: Ali Hanlen, Alyssa and Emily Pleier, Steven, Aaron, and Nathan Halverson; three sisters: Florence Van Zummeren of Appleton, Lorraine Hermsen of Green Bay, and Esther Schnese of Kimberly; also nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by a sister Marie Day and four brothers-in-law: Irving Van Zummeren, Robert Hermsen, Marvin Schnese, and Kenneth Day.
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10th, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., with Fr. Martin Carr officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. A Memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of The Renaissance and Parkside Care Center for the wonderful care they provided our father.
