    • Rollard A. Tappa, 90, Oconto, Wis., died peacefully after a short illness on Monday, April 26, 2010, with his family at his side. Rollard had been residing at Birch Creek Assisted Living Facility in De Pere, Wis..

      Rollard was born May 30, 1919, in Green Bay, Wis., to the late Charles and Ellen (Lemerond) Tappa. He attended school in Green Bay..

      On Nov. 10, 1942, he married Marion Courtois at Holy Family Catholic Church, Columbus, Ga., while stationed there..

      He served in the U. S. Army from February 1941 until September 1945 spending time in Europe and received two battle stars..

      When first entering service he served with the 11th U. S. Cavalry until the unit disbanded in May 1942 and became the 777th Tank Battalion, a part of the 10th Armored Division..

      He was a member of the 10th Armored Division Veterans Association and the 69th Infantry Veterans Association, having attended many of the national reunions of those organizations..

      He was employed for 20 years at Scott Paper Company in Oconto Falls, retiring in 1972. Prior to this he worked for Oconto County Highway Department..

      He was also a member of the American Legion Post 74, Oconto..

      For many years he and is wife were active at the Oconto Nutrition Site delivering Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and the Knights of Columbus..

      Rollard is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Alan Durocher, Two Rivers; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Ann Tappa, Appleton; and Michael and Kathy Tappa, Howard; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Craig) MacWilliams, Oak Creek, Wis.; Allison (Carlos) Tarazona, Chicago, Ill.; Katie Durocher and special friend, Michael Bateman, Francis Creek, Wis.; Elizabeth (Christopher) Schwantes, Oregon, Wis.; Ryan (Stephanie) Tappa, Oconto; Mallory (Andrew) Gauerke, Fondulac, Wis.; and Kyle Tappa, Howard, Wis. He is further survived by seven great-grandchildren, Brandon and Courtney MacWilliams, Brayden, Quinci, and Kendall Tappa, Anna Schwantes and Isabel Bateman. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Tappa, and Doris Carriveau, Green Bay; Patricia Bake, Oconto; and Elaine (William ) Dalton, Crystal River, Fla.; along with extended family member, Tracy Beekman, Green Bay..

      His wife of 62 years, Marion, preceded him in death on May 24, 2004, along with a son, Paul Rollard Tappa on March14, 1981. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Raymond, Marvin, Wilbert, Orville, Merle and Carole; and sisters, Viola Luedke, Leona Knaus, and Virginia Tappa..

      Rollard enjoyed his family and friends, motoring around on his power wheelchair and life in general and will be deeply missed..

      Friends may call at Holy Trinity Parish, Oconto from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be 6 p.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. Bob Grober officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion. Entombment will be Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto is assisting the family.
