Kelley, Lucille Courtney
Lucille Courtney Kelley, 94, of Savannah, Georgia, died Saturday evening, March 1, 2008, at Azalealand Nursing Home under the care of Hospice Savannah. Born in Combined Locks, Wisconsin, she was a daughter of the late Michael John Courtney and the late Mary Magdalene Green Courtney of Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She received her training as registered nurse from Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis W. Kelley. The couple moved to Savannah in 1936 for the start of what was then Union Bag Corporation (International Paper).
She was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was an active volunteer at the Social Apostolate up until very recently.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Courtney, and her sister, Eileen Courtney Biersteker, both of Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Also surviving are her four children: Mary Kelley Maloney, Francis Joseph Kelley, Michael Courtney Kelley, and Margaret Kelley Murphy (Terrence). Grandchildren Michael Courtney Maloney, John Joseph Maloney, Kelley Ann Maloney, Megan Kelley Murphy and Courtney Elizabeth Murphy. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 o'clock Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the rosary service being held at 7 o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in Sacred Heart Catholic Church conducted by The Reverend Francis C. Higgins. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, at a later date.
