McALLISTER MAN DIES IN CABIN FIRE
Albert James Dietrich, age 44, of McAllister, burned to death at 3:30 a.m. Saturday when fire of undetermined origin destroyed the cabin in which he resided on his mother's farm. His mother told authorities that she saw the cabin on fire between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. The flames had completely engulfed the structure, making it impossible to enter. Several years ago, Dietrich was burned when his coat caught fire. He was hospitalized for several days and recovered from the burns. A brother, Harold, who also lives with his mother, reported seeing Dietrich about 1 a.m. in the lighted cabin walking around.
Funeral services for the victim were conducted on Monday at 2 p.m. in the Hansen and Onion Funeral Home with the Rev. Louis Olson of the Community Lutheran Church of McAllister officiating. Burial was made in the Taber Lutheran cemetery in McAllister.
A woods worker, Mr. Dietrich was born November 12, 1916, in McAllister and resided there all his life except for five years service with the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Purple Heart for particiattion in the Normandy invasion.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Arthur (Victoria) Dietrich of McAllister; two brothers, Harold and James of McAllister; four sisters, Mrs. Clarence Wery of Menominee, MI; Mrs. Henry Ebsch of Wallace, MI; Mrs. Carl Steinbrecher and Mrs. Roy Watson of McAllister.
