    • Roy G. Brownell, 70, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at his home.

      Roy was born Jan. 6, 1941, in Appleton, to Roy M. and Ruth Gretzinger Brownell. He married Mary Ellen Kilsdonk July 16, 1960, at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute. He graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1959. Roy was a big brother in the Big Brothers & Sisters program. He was a foster parent to 28 children. He was a member of Lowell Center. Roy retired from Consolidated Papers in 2000. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Brewers, Badgers and Packers.

      Roy is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Tim of Milwaukee; sister, Irene Schommer of Kaukauna; niece, Lisa; nephew, Mark; and special friend, Fred Smart.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angi; sister, Eileen Peterson; nephew, Brian; and brother in-law, David Schommer.

      The family would like to thank Kathy Winkler, Grand Rapids Fire Department, EMT & United Emergency Medical Response. Service will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Higgins Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, with visitation from 1 p.m. until time of service, also at the funeral home.
