- Age 73, went home to God unexpectedly, on January 6, 2003, with his wife Lola, daughter Mary and grandson Ian at his side. Russ was born in Hartford, Connecticut on June 12, 1929, son of the late Russell Sr. and Gertrude Stevenson Noyes. Mr. Noyes acquired a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering Degree from Rensselaer Poly-Technical Institute, Troy, New York, where he played on the varsity lacrosse team. Russ graduated with academic honors, including the National Engineering Honor Society, and was top man in his NROTC class. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy, serving his country from 1951 ' 1954 on the U.S.S. Shannon.
Russell married Lola O' Connor on September 14, 1957, and had a daughter, Mary Christina Noyes in 1961. He began a long, successful and happy career with the Kimberly Clark Corporation in 1954, retiring in 1988 as Director of Engineering Services for the Personal Care Sector. In July of 1984, Russ was appointed to the Research Advisory Committee at the Institute of Paper Chemistry, Appleton, Wisconsin. He loved to travel and share the slides of his and Lola's travels with various groups in the area. Russ also loved woodcarving and many other activities during his retirement years. Most of all, Russ enjoyed spending time with his wife Lola and their family. Russell is survived by his wife, Lola; his daughter, Mary Noyes Gregory Tomensky; a sister, Edna Winslow; a grandson, Ian Tomensky; nieces, Donna James Jones; Sarah Roman Muller; Mary Susan Clark Kosty; and a nephew, Daniel Winslow. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, January 10, 2003, at ST. THOMAS EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 226 Washington Street, Menasha, with Rev. Vicki Natzke officiating. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, January 9, from 4 until 8 p.m., and again at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Russell's name.
