    • Appleton, Orville F. Post-Crescent, The (Appleton, WI) January 16, 2002 Freedom Age 89, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2002, at his home. He was born August 11, 1912, in Freedom son of the late Frank and Anna (Nienhaus) Appleton. On April 30, 1936, he married Irene Garvey at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Oneida. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2001. Together they farmed in Oneida Township until their retirement in 1974. Orville represented the Town of Oneida on the Board of Education for the Freedom School District. He served as a director of the Freedom State Bank, presently known as Bank One, from 1960 to 1986. Orville was a charter member of the Freedom Lions Club. Lions International honored him with the distinguished Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for outstanding community service. Orville was a charter member and was granted a life-time honorary membership in the Knights of Columbus, Council 8061, Freedom. He was a member of the Freedom Golden Agers and a life-long member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom.

      Survivors include his children: Margaret (Lee) Blohm, Appleton Betty (Joe) Garvey, Freedom Jim (Dot) Appleton, Green Bay Pat (Gwen) Appleton, Scottsdale, Arizona Karl (Barb) Appleton, Green Bay Barb (Mike) Schneider, Freedom Ann (Archie) Stam, Green Bay 18 grandchildren: Laura (Craig) Pitts, Glen Ellyn, Illinois Patrick (Carolyn) Blohm, Jacksonville, Florida Kathy (Todd Sattler) Blohm, Bismarck, North Dakota Brenda (Steve Benck) Blohm, Portage Maria (Jim) Ellis, Atlanta, Georgia Christopher Blohm, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Joe (Sara) Garvey, Dusseldorf, Germany John (Chelse) Garvey, Freedom Dan (fiancee Nicole) Garvey, Sheboygan Dawn (Dan) Degeneffe, Todd (Lori) Appleton, Jim (Kim) Appleton, and Jason (Nikki) Appleton, all of Green Bay Patrick Appleton II and Michael Appleton, both of Scottsdale, Arizona Andrea Appleton, Davenport, Iowa Ryan Scherer, Menomonie Megan Stam, Green Bay 28 great-grandchildren a sister, Mary (Clarence) Schlimm, Freedom a brother, Robert Appleton, Oneida. He is further survived by his wife's family: Mike (Florence) Garvey, Oneida Bill (Rosemary) Garvey, Appleton Robert "Buzz" (Grace) Garvey, Freedom and a sister-in-law, Linda Garvey, Oneida.

      He was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, June Appleton and Kay Appleton and a brother-in-law, Jim Garvey.

      Friends may call Thursday, January 17th, at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., and on Friday from 9 a.m. until the cortege leaves for the church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, Freedom, with Fr. Dannis Ryan officiating.

      The family wishes to thank his faithful caregivers who made it possible for our Dad to remain in the comfort of his home.
