    • STRAUBING, GERMANY ~ Edward Joseph Giguere 78, of East Freetown Massachusetts died Monday September 25, 2000 St. Elizabeth Clinic, while cruising the Danube.

      He was the husband of the late Marie E. (Harrington) Giguere and Gretchen K. (Putnam) Giguere. He was the son of the late Adelard and Laura (Messier) Giguere.

      Born in New Bedford Massachusetts a lifelong resident of that area, Mr. Giguere was a World War II Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 166.

      He was a communicant of St. John Neumann Church of East Freetown.

      A 1941 graduate of New Bedford High School, he formerly was a power-man in a New England Telephone Company central office for 35 years.

      An international race fan, Mr. Giguere belonged to the Baystate Old Timers Auto Race Club; Atlantic Coastal Old Timers Auto Race Club; Aucklund, New Zealand, Vintage Car Club,; and the New Bedford Auto Racing Association. He was president of the Southeast Racing Association.

      He pioneered Freetown's Cub Scout Soap Box Derby and was proprietor of Laurel Hill Nursery for 20 years.

      His only survivors are his three godchildren. He was the father of the late Joseph Edward Giguere.

      Funeral plans will be announced at a later time. Arrangements are by the Rick Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
