    • Green Bay - James "Jim" Maricque, 91, Green Bay resident, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his home. He was born November 23, 1926, in Green Bay to the late William and Ruth (Flavion) Maricque. Jim served in the US Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He married the former Mary Jean Burkard on May 5, 1951 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2014 following 63 years of marriage. Following Jim's return from service he began a lifetime career in the commercial fishing business. In 1959, Jim and his brother Bob incorporated Maricque's Fishing Company with Maricque's Bar, which continues to operate to this day. Jim was appointed to the Great Lakes Fishing Commission under then Governor Patrick Lucy and remained active on the commission through Governor Tommy Thompsons term. Jim had a work ethic that was admired by many. He worked on the boat, took care of the catch and finished many days in the kitchen or behind the bar. He was known for his sharp wit, his expertise in mixing a drink and was never known to tell a story twice. When the kids were young he coached little league baseball for the Wednesday Noon Optimist Club and was an active member at St. Mary of the Angels Parish where he remained a member. As a local business man Jim was active in the community in various capacities supporting Green Bay.

He is survived by his five children: Steven (Janelle) Maricque, Green Bay; Renee (Steve Gillis) Maricque, Oceanside, CA; Jamie (Carolyn) Maricque; Craig (Lisa) Maricque, all Green Bay and Nicole (Joe) Burley, Vandalia, OH; thirteen grandchildren: Brett (Vanity) Maricque, Jenna Maricque, Marlee (Nick) Schlief, Ethan (Brianna) Mollet, Sam Boyd, Audrey Maricque, Lindsey Maricque, Creighton Maricque, Carly Maricque, Cullen (Meredith) Maricque, Tyler Burley, Alyssa Burley and Elaina Burley; six great grandchildren: Trae, Amiyah, Aaliyah, Joshua, Madelyn and Briella and his sister, Maxine Kinnard, Green Bay.

He was preceded in death by his brother Bob (Betty) Maricque and his brother-in-law Arnie Kinnard.

Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 4:00-7:15 pm Thursday with a parish wake service ending the visitation at 7:15 pm.
